August 12-16, 2010 MARLBORO MUSIC FESTIVAL Each summer on a rural hilltop in Marlboro, Vermont master concert artists gather for seven weeks with exceptional young professionals on the campus of Marlboro College where they rehearse, study and play together as one musical family. We invite you, once again, to immerse yourself in this atmosphere of artistry and excellence at the MARLBORO MUSIC FESTIVAL. We will stop along the way to enjoy the beautiful landscapes of New England, with its charming villages, country stores and museums. On our way home we have planned a special stop at Cooperstown for a performance at the innovative GLIMMERGLASS OPERA. THURSDAY, AUGUST 12 - Depart the Philadelphia area and travel north to Vermont. Enjoy a box lunch enroute and a stop at the SMITH COLLEGE MUSEUM OF ART, one of the nation’s finest teaching collections. In the late afternoon we will check in at the charming PUTNEY INN in PUTNEY, VERMONT. Dinner is included this evening. FRIDAY, AUGUST 13 - Travel to WILLIAMSTOWN, MASSACHUSETTS to the STERLING AND FRANCINE CLARK ART INSTITUTE. On view is PICASSO LOOKS AT DEGAS, an exhibit that explores Pablo Picasso’s lifelong fascination with the life and work of Edgar Degas. We will also see the striking new STONE HILL CENTER designed by Japanese architect TADAO ANDO and the WILLIAMS COLLEGE MUSEUM OF ART. A CONCERT AT THE MARLBORO MUSIC FESTIVAL IS INCLUDED THIS EVENING. SATURDAY, AUGUST 14 - This morning we will attend a rehearsal at MARLBORO. Relax at the PUTNEY INN this afternoon or travel with us to the wonderful LEAGUE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE CRAFTSMAN’S FAIR at MT. SUNAPEE. Enjoy a pre-concert talk about the history and development of the MARLBORO MUSIC FESTIVAL before tonight’s included concert. SUNDAY, AUGUST 15 - Sleep in this morning or enjoy some time in BRATTLEBORO where you can shop, enjoy a light lunch and visit the BRATTLEBORO MUSEUM and ART CENTER. Return to MARLBORO in the afternoon for our final concert followed by dinner at the WHITE HOUSE INN. MONDAY, AUGUST 16 - Travel to COOPERSTOWN, NEW YORK where lunch is included at the fabulous OTESAGA HOTEL. You can choose between visits to the town’s many museums or a performance of Puccini’s TOSCA, at the renowned GLIMMERGLASS OPERA. A brief stop will be made for dinner before arrival in Philadelphia. TOUR COST: $1480.00 per person, double occupancy. The single supplement is $340.00. INCLUDED FEATURES: Four nights’ accommodations at the PUTNEY INN; tax and porterage; two dinners, two lunches, and full American Breakfast daily; all transportation by deluxe motor coach from the Philadelphia area; admission costs for included sightseeing; three chamber music concerts.
