EXCURSIONS FROM THE SQUARE

June 05-07, 2010

Join our weekend trip to PITTSBURGH, a city that grew up in the industrial age and has blossomed into a modern, cultural and exciting metropolis. We will visit CLAYTON, the charming home of industrialist Henry Clay Frick, the provocative ANDY WARHOL MUSEUM, and THE CARNEGIE, known for its French Impressionist paintings and monumental architectural casts. The highlight of our weekend is a tour of FALLINGWATER, considered to be one of the finest achievements of architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Enjoy the tranquil beauty of Central and Western Pennsylvania as we travel by deluxe motor coach to Pittsburgh. Stops on the trip to Pittsburgh include the Capitol Building in HARRISBURG and JOHNSTOWN, rebuilt after the devastating floods of the last 140 years.

SATURDAY, JUNE 5 – Depart Philadelphia this morning and travel by deluxe motor coach to HARRISBURG, enjoying a box lunch along the way. Tour the magnificent Capitol Building located near the banks of the Susquehanna River. It was designed by Philadelphia architect Joseph M. Huston and is distinguished by breathtaking sculpture, stained glass, and murals throughout its public areas and legislative chambers. Continue on to JOHNSTOWN for a stop at the JOHNSTOWN FLOOD MUSEUM with artifacts from the flood of May 31, 1889. Check in at the historic OMNI WILLIAM PENN HOTEL in PITTSBURGH. Optional plans will be made for dinner at a nearby restaurant.

SUNDAY, JUNE 6 – Our day begins with a brief overview of Pittsburgh’s architectural highlights followed by a tour at the ANDY WARHOL MUSEUM.
